No matter their background, every student deserves a high-quality education and the opportunity to reach their full potential. As educators, the greatest impact we can have is in the classroom. Research shows teaching quality is the most important in-school factor influencing student outcomes.

But there is much debate about what ‘quality teaching’ is.

Over several years, Associate Professor James Ladwig and Laureate Professor Jenny Gore developed and refined the QT Model, which was first published in 2003. The Model comprehensively identifies ‘quality teaching’ and is the foundation of everything we do.

Having a model is never enough. You need a powerful process that supports teachers to develop their practice and improve outcomes. QT Rounds professional development was created as the mechanism for embedding the QT Model in teachers’ practice.

For more than two decades, the University of Newcastle has undertaken a comprehensive body of research on QT and QT Rounds. The research found that QT Rounds positively impacts teaching quality, improves teacher morale and efficacy, and student outcomes. No other school-based intervention has been so thoroughly tested in Australian schools or amassed such rigorous evidence.

The QT Academy was launched in 2020 to support teachers across the world to successfully implement QT Rounds. Our professional development offerings have since expanded, supporting teachers in diverse classrooms to embed QT more broadly in their practice, including their assessment and programming work.

How do I get started with QT?

Most schools begin their QT journey by participating in our professional development workshops on teaching, assessment or programming practice. We regularly update our schedule with new in-person and online workshops. Depending on eligibility, you might be able to access free QT workshops through one of the research projects conducted by the University of Newcastle.

Members of the QT Academy have access to a suite of free resources, including webinars, research summaries and explainer videos. These resources help you learn how to start using the QT Model and refine your practice individually or in small groups. Members also enjoy a 10 per cent discount on any workshop booking.
