QT Pulse survey and report

A powerful tool to help you implement positive change

The QT Pulse Survey, developed by researchers at the University of Newcastle, provides school leaders with an automatically generated report. The report features real-time insightful data on the teaching and learning culture, staff morale and school environment.

An investment of 20 minutes from your staff each term delivers school leaders robust, anonymous data from research-based survey questions. This means the survey responses and the report are a legitimate representation of the school environment and leaders are equipped to make evidence-informed decisions.

Schools have two subscription levels available to them. The first is the Premium subscription, which provides a detailed report on 17 significant measures. The second is the Free subscription, which offers a simpler report on seven measures each term.

Steps involved with the QT Pulse 

  1. Principal approves the QT Pulse subscription.
  2. Principal and a school admin contact receive an email with the link to the first QT Pulse: School Health Longitudinal Survey.
  3. All staff members complete the survey at the next staff meeting. On average, there’s an 85% response rate when done in a staff meeting, compared to 38% when distributed via email only.
  4. After the first response is submitted, a 48-hour window opens for all staff to complete the survey.
  5. After 48 hours we automatically generate your QT Pulse report. Please note, this data is also used for research purposes.
  6. Within five business days, the principal and admin contact receives the first report (Baseline Report).
  7. We send a reminder with the next survey link in Week 3 of the following school term.
  8. The school repeats the process and receives a new report (Continuing Report) each term, to track progress over time.

FAQs

To generate the most accurate reflection of your school environment, it is crucial that all teachers and school leaders complete the QT Pulse Survey. However, participation by staff in the survey is optional. The collected data will also be used for research purposes.

To maintain the anonymity of staff, we require eight or more survey responses. If you have fewer than eight staff members but still wish to participate in the survey, please reach out to our team. We are happy to discuss alternative evaluation opportunities with you separately.

We recommend that you run the QT Pulse Survey once a term in week 4, 5, or 6. If a better time suits your school (e.g., week 7), always repeat it at the same time. Repeating the survey in consistent weeks of each term can mitigate the potential seasonal effects on survey responses.

Completing the survey takes between 15 – 20 minutes. We recommend allocating time during a staff meeting for all staff to complete the survey. On average, we observe that 85% of staff respond in a staff meeting compared to 38% of staff when we distribute it via email only. 

We automatically send out the QT Pulse Survey link upon completion of the sign-up process – usually within 15 minutes. Our team will then send you a reminder email each term in Weeks 3 and 6. You will receive your Free or Premium Report within five business days after we receive the first survey response.

We will only deliver your report once we have received a minimum of eight responses. By obtaining at least eight responses, we ensure the anonymity of the results. Gathering responses from the highest proportion of staff possible will provide a comprehensive overview of your school environment and a more valuable report. 

Our team will send your school’s report to your principal and a nominated admin contact within five business days of receiving the first survey response.

We suggest sharing the results throughout the school. It’s powerful for all staff members to view the results and actively participate in discussions with school leadership regarding their work and the school culture.
